A router modem combo replaces the modem you rent from your cable company. Check that your provider supports the model before you buy.

Will a combo save me money?
Usually yes. If you pay about $15 a month to rent, a combo pays for itself in about a year. I'd check your bill first.
Combo or separate modem and router?
I'd go with separate boxes if you want mesh later or plan to upgrade often. A combo is great if you want one box and less clutter.
